Yoga is an ancient Indian approach to health and wellbeing, that is not only an excellent form of exercise but is also a spiritual and mental practice that has many health benefits. Improve strength, flexibility and balance with an easy-to-follow sequence of poses, whilst unwinding and de-stressing with breathing techniques and relaxation!

Can I do Yoga?

Of course you can! Young or old, there is no limit on practising Yoga. I give options for all levels and abilities, and encourage everyone to go at their own pace and listen to their bodies. However, if you do have any medical conditions, injuries or if you are taking any medications that effect your heart, please seek advice from your doctor prior to participating.

I'm not flexible - can I do Yoga?

Yes! You are a perfect candidate for yoga. Many people think that they need to be flexible to begin yoga, but that's a little bit like thinking that you need to be able to play tennis in order to take tennis lessons. Come as you are and you will find that yoga practice will help you become more flexible. This newfound agility will be balanced by strength, coordination, and enhanced cardiovascular health, as well as a sense of physical confidence and overall well-being.

Is Yoga tiring/exhausting? Will I get worn-out quickly?

Yoga is a gentle form of exercise that won't leave you 'puffed out' and thus avoids placing stress on your heart and lungs. But just because Yoga doesn't conform to the 'no pain no gain' mentality of other exercise regimes, don't think that it isn't an excellent route to increased fitness. Working at your own pace and working with mindfulness, you will gently notice your your stamina, strength and flexibility increase; stretching, lengthening and strengthening muscles as you do so.

Will I lose weight through Yoga exercises?

In essence, Yoga is not a cardiovascular workout and burning calories or 'weight loss' is not it's main focus. Although Yoga postures help to strengthen, sculpt and tone the body, much more importance is placed upon on how the body feels, rather than how it looks, as we connect our mind, body and spirit through the use of our breath. The utlimate focus of yoga is to set another dimension alive within you that is beyond the physical. Yoga is a practice of self-care, reflection and study; a time to nuture, love and give back to yourself, creating harmony and peace from within, improving your overall wellbeing. Whether the number on the scale goes down or not, there are so many benefits through doing Yoga, and you will notice how much healthier and happier you look and feel through continued practice.

What should I wear to a Yoga class?

You should wear comfortable, loose, easy-to-move in clothing that does not restrict movement. We do not wear shoes in Yoga so no specific footwear is necessary. You are welcome to wear Yoga socks if you would prefer to.

What should I bring along to a Yoga class?

Please bring along a mat. These can be easily purchased for reasonable prices. Do ensure that you buy a Yoga-specific mat as these are thinner, so that you can stand and balance with more ease. You are also welcome to bring with you a throw/blanket (we may use this is place under our knees, hips and neck for support during some postures. It's also nice to drape over yourself in savasana (relaxation) at the end of the class)
